Helena Sousa

Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences, University of Minho, since 2011. Ph.D. in Communication Policy (City University, London) in 1996, she has coordinated and participated in national and international research projects on media regulation, communication policies, and journalism. She serves as the Editor of the European Journal of Communication (Sage), is a Full Member of the Euromedia Research Group, and has collaborated in this field with the Council of Europe and the European Audiovisual Observatory. She was the Director of the Ph.D. program in Communication Sciences, Vice-President, and President of the Institute of Social Sciences (UMinho), Co-coordinator of POLObs, the Observatory of Science, Communication, and Culture Policies, and President of the Cultural Council of the University of Minho. She worked at Jornal de Notícias in Porto between 1988 and 1991. She has been the President of the ERC since November 7, 2023.
